On 5th July 2022, the NHS marks 74 years of service. We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those hardworking staff in the cancer care teams across Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

NHS staff continue to work incredibly hard to deal with current pressures, tackle COVID backlogs and deliver high-quality treatment and care.

Remember, your NHS is here for you. If something in your body doesn’t feel right, contact your GP practice. Don’t let the thought of cancer play on your mind. Your GP may refer you for tests to rule out cancer. Most people who go for tests find out it’s not cancer, but finding out sooner is always better.

The NHS has been through an extraordinary period of challenge and change. While caring for more than 750,000 Covid patients in hospital during the pandemic, the NHS rolled out the biggest and most successful vaccination programme in health service history. Health and care staff quickly adapted to providing more virtual care, while new technologies and advanced treatments were established.

Amanda Pritchard, NHS Chief Executive, said: “No one in the country has been untouched by the events of the last two years and NHS staff along with our wonderful volunteers, workers who kept our shops and public services running and those who kept schools and offices open across the country are no exception.”

She added, “The effects of the pandemic are still being felt even as the NHS and the country now looks to recover and rebuild, so the continued support of local communities remains as vital as it is hugely appreciated.”
